Michael J. Fox gets a new comedy on NBC

Michael J. Fox will star in a new series on NBC in the fall of 2013.

Writing a real-life drama based on his own extraordinary story, Michael J. Fox, Louis Canning on 'The Good Wife', is returning full-time to series television.

Fox will star in a new NBC sitcom as a husband and father of three who is dealing with Parkinson’s disease — like Fox has been doing.

NBC said Monday it has picked up 22 episodes of the yet-untitled sitcom, scheduled for fall 2013.

Fox said in a statement that he is “excited to get to work.”

He left “Spin City” in 2000, and became the country’s most notable advocate for research into Parkinson’s, a progressive neurological disease.

In recent years he has returned to television with guest roles on “Boston Legal,” “Scrubs,” “The Good Wife” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

He won an Emmy for his role on “Rescue Me” in 2009.

Fox is best known as Alex P. Keaton on the 1980s NBC sitcom “Family Ties” and for the three-movie “Back to the Future” series.
